Mariah Carey is tired of talking about 2016, dahlings.
The singer’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance was a disaster, which left her “mortified,” and now she’s ready to change the conversation. The diva, who has weathered more than a few headline-making moments through the years, worked to do just that on Wednesday by posting a photo of her annual hot tub plunge — gold bathing suit and all.
“Aspen moments,” is how the “We Belong Together” songstress, 46, captioned the photo, which showed her smiling brightly, but looking a little rough in a metallic swimsuit, which was not on properly — with unfortunate results. She pulled one strap down — maybe to show a little cleavage? — making for a lopsided look. Her hair was in her face as she cheesed for the camera, which also captured a bottle of what appears to be alcohol sitting on the ledge behind her.
Perhaps the Mariah’s World star took the photo after her visit to the marijuana dispensary?
Either way, the photo, which she probably hoped would help bury her other drama, was a departure from last year’s hot-tub pic. (Yes, it’s a thing. Every year, Mimi — who has been dating her backup dancer, Bryan Tanaka, since her engagement to billionaire James Packer ended over the summer — takes bathing suit photos in snowy Aspen, where she spends the holidays.) Back then, she was in a new romance with Packer — about to be engaged — and her photo was considerably more pulled together. She wore another gold swimsuit (how many does she have?) that accentuated her chest as she playfully struck a pose with snow in her hands.
She didn’t look as if she was going to pass out from the hot-tub temperatures (like she does this year).
Two years before that, Mariah — who was married to Nick Cannon at the time — rocked a red-hot bikini as she posed with one of her puppies. The mom of two looked ab fab (and coherent).
Mariah has a lot of big things coming up in 2017 (a tour with Lionel Richie, the end of a reality show and Las Vegas residency, to name a few), but it seems for at least a little longer she’ll be plagued with drama from her unfortunate NYE performance, which stemmed from sound issues or her refusal to attend rehearsals (depending on who you ask).
